Destination Magazine

Aspen and neighbouring Snowmass form the most complete luxury ski destination in North America: four ski areas on one lift ticket (Aspen Mountain, Highlands, Buttermilk, Snowmass), a walkable town of galleries, restaurants and boutiques, and hotels — the Little Nell, the St. Regis, Hotel Jerome — that set the standard for ski-in service. The season runs from late November to mid-April; Christmas–New Year and Presidents' Day week are the peaks. Summer is the second season, with the Aspen Music Festival, hiking to the Maroon Bells and the Food & Wine Classic in June. Altitude (2,400 m in town) affects many visitors — hydrate and take the first day easy. Aspen/Pitkin County airport has weather-dependent service; Denver is a four-hour drive.
