Bora Bora

Bora Bora is a single volcanic peak inside a turquoise lagoon ringed by motu, the small islets on which the great resorts sit. Arrival is by air from Tahiti (Papeete) to the Bora Bora airport motu, then by resort boat. The dry season from May to October brings the best weather; November to April is warmer, wetter and cheaper. Lagoon excursions — snorkelling with rays and reef sharks, sunset cruises, a day on a private motu — are the substance of a stay; the island itself is small and quiet. This is a honeymoon and milestone destination above all, and rates reflect it. Vaccination and entry requirements follow French Polynesia's rules; French and Tahitian are spoken, English is widely understood at resorts.
